ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans

July 17-23, 2012


Details:

Open to

    • Current Eighth Graders Through Graduating Seniors.

Lodging

    • We will be staying in a hotel in New Orleans, four youth per room.

Gathering

    • Main sessions will be in the Superdome, while other events and activities will be at the convention centers and hotels in the city.

Service

    • We will spend one day in service to a community in New Orleans.

Transportation

    • We will most likely be flying from Seattle to New Orleans. If airfare is unreasonably high, we may try to connect with another church and travel by coach. Ground transportation in New Orleans will be provided by the gathering.

Leaders

    • We will have a 1:5 ratio of adult leaders (over 21) to youth on the trip.

Trip Costs Per Person

    • Gathering: $315
    • Lodging: $225
    • Airfare: $535
    • Food: $150
    • Estimated Total: $1,200

How Will We Pay for This?

$400 Out of Pocket Per Youth

      • $150 Due October 1st
      • $150 Due January 5th
      • $100 Due April 28th
      • Late payments will incur a $50 fee.

$300 Family & Friends Sponsorships

      • Each youth will write a letter (Justin will hand out a sample) asking family and friends to financially sponsor them for the trip. Preferably write to family and friends that live out of the area, so we can invite our close family and friends to come to our dinner and auction.
      • Due April 28th

$500 From Fundraising (Past & Future)

      • Easter Breakfast, April 8th (50% of donations will go towards the trip)
      • Dinner & Auction, Saturday, April 28th (All Day Attendance & Auction Item or Basket is Mandatory)
      • Flamingo Fundraiser, Late June-Early July (If Needed)

Note: Due to the financial commitment Gloria Dei will make on behalf of each youth  going, we will be firm on deposit dates, fundraiser participation, and overall commitment. If a youth has to drop out mid-year, they will be charged what Gloria Dei has put forth thus far. For example, if a youth drops out in February, and Gloria Dei has already paid deposits for the gathering, airfare, and hotel, the family will be responsible for paying the fees in excess of $400. Commitment, responsibility, and participation will be very important.
