All-Church BBQ and More!!

Tickets On Sale starting this Sunday (September 27, 2015) for the October 11 All-Church BBQ & More!!! On the 11th there will be raffles in the Gathering Space at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m. with Dennis Longnecker’s famous baby back ribs and Katie Hurley’s fabulous cornbread, beans and slaw. To reserve your spot at the BBQ, sign-up in the church office or in the Gathering Space between services. Price is $15 per person or $40 per family, to be paid when you sign up.

Vacation Bible School:  July 6-10 & 12, 2015

Excitement is mounting for another great VBS!  All children age three (by January 15, 2015, and potty trained) to those entering sixth grade in the fall are welcome!  We will explore the “Calling of the Disciples” and how we too are called to be Jesus’ helpers.

This intergenerational week of learning is so much fun!  Many volunteers are needed —  both adults as well as students entering seventh grade on up.   The registration fee is waived for our volunteers and staff child care is provided.

Registration forms are available in the Gathering Space, the Church Office, and online.  No information is stored using the online form.  After you fill it out, please print it and mail or return it to the church office.  Children should be registered for the class or grade they will enter in the fall.

What is Godly Play?

Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle and late childhood and beyond. Come join us!

CINDY SPENCER has been teaching Godly Play since 1992 in a variety of settings, and has been a Godly Play trainer since 2002. She was the Coordinator for Children and Family Ministries at Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle from 2002-2015, developing, supporting and maintaining four Godly Play classrooms for children age 3 through 5th grade. From 2013-15 she also served on the Bishop’s Staff of the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia, supporting congregations as they developed their ministries with children and families.  Her interests include equipping families to pass on their faith at home and ministering to and with children with special needs and their families.  She earned an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1994, and has three Godly Play raised children who are now in high school and college.

The meal is served buffet-style from 5:00 – 6:15 p.m. in the Gathering Space.
A suggested donation of $5 per adult and $3 per child helps defray our costs.

KidZone: Supervised and Structured Play Time is from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Nursery care is available for younger children who need it.

Ages 5 and up: Luther Hall

Children’s Choirs meet in the Choir Room, upstairs, room 205:

1st – 3rd Grade: 5:10 – 5:40 p.m. (Note that Third Graders have the option of singing with Grades 1-3 or with Grades 3-6)

Age 2 thru Kindergarten: 5:45 – 6:10 p.m.

3rd – 6th Grade: 6:15 – 7:00 p.m.

Youth Choir: 5:45 – 6:20 p.m. in the Sanctuary Balcony

Parents of Students in 9th Grade and/or Confirmation: 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the High School Room, room 206. After this first Wednesday meeting for the parents, the regular schedule has Confirmation (7th & 8th grade) students meeting at 6:30 p.m. first in Luther Hall and then heading up to the Sheep Pen, room 217; and the Youth Group, grades 9 through 12, meeting at 6:30 p.m. first in Luther Hall and then heading up to the High School Room, room 206.

Financial Peace University (for those old enough to be issued a credit card!) in the Conference Room from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.  This week is a preview of the nine week class that starts next week, September 23.

Bell Choir: 5:45 – 6:45 p.m. in the Fireside Room

Adult Choir: 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary Balcony

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH AND PARENTS!  For those planning to go on the Summer Mission Trip to San Diego, there is an important meeting THIS WEDNESDAY, April 22nd at 6pm in the high school room. Parents are encouraged to attend.
