Students in these grades focus on learning one story every three to five weeks and interact with it in a different way each week through a variety of “Workshops” or classes. This is called the Workshop Rotation Model of Sunday School. Workshops vary with each story (rotation) and may include: a movie and discussion, art, drama, cooking, computers, games, worship, science, or special project.
Teachers repeat the same lesson each week of a rotation to a new group of students. Leaders sign up for workshops that match their own skills or interests. Shepherds stay with their assigned grade level class from week to week to provide continuity and support for learning.
We utilize a four year cycle of rotations developed to prepare students for entry into seventh grade Confirmation. Bible skills along with Spiritual practices are woven into each rotation.
For the month of May, students in grades 1-5 will be exploring the story of The Road to Emmaus through cooking, games, dramatic storytelling, and a walking to Emmaus field trip experience.
Bring your friends! The Road to Emmaus resources are below. All are welcome!
Sunday school is dynamic, fun, and successful at Gloria Dei because each year over 100 people help behind the scenes, teach, lead, or shepherd in classes for ages birth through high school. Being involved in Sunday school is a great way to honor the baptismal promise to help our children grow in faith, feel really good about contributing to our Christian Education Ministry, and to work with some really great people!
If you would like to volunteer or would like more information, please let me know. Beth Tobin, Deacon Children & Family Ministry
A Children’s Ministry email update is sent to families each week. To join this group list, please contact Deacon Beth Tobin or the church office.
Students will get to explore this story in so many engaging ways! We are excited for this opportunity to reintroduce/introduce children to church and Sunday school at Gloria Dei. Through exploring this story, children will remember that Jesus loves them and is with them, make connections with worship and communion, get to explore and become familiar with our church building, and celebrate the Easter season knowing Jesus is alive!
