The Mission Endowment Ministry Distribution Task Force is pleased to announce that grant funds are available to support both Local and Global Missions. The Task Force, with Council’s approval, has chosen Hunger Relief as our area of focus for this year’s funds.
We have chosen three local organizations to support and, with the congregation’s help, we will prioritize the amounts awarded.
–Thurston County Food Bank—currently serves about 11,000 individuals per month through their satellites and pantries, and, during the school year, over 4000 children per month through FORKids programs.
–Olympia Union Gospel Mission—provides hot meals three times a day M-F and twice a day on S-S. In the last 12 months they served 108,783 meals to those in need.
–The Community Kitchen—serves nutritious lunch and dinner meals Monday – Saturday. In 2023, Staff and Volunteers prepared 848,016 meals for individuals and families serving 109,109 persons in this region.
For our global grant we are recommending support to the ELCA World Hunger 50th anniversary campaign.
Through this comprehensive approach, we work to address hunger from all angles —both domestically and globally.
On July 13 we will ask the congregation, by ballot, to rank the local organizations to aid us in prioritizing the grant amounts. Additionally we will ask for a yes/no vote for awarding grant funds to the ELCA World Hunger appeal.
